Used vs New Parts
There is always the debate – whether it is with yourself or another person – on what is better to buy. Do you go out and spend the extra money for a brand new part that might last a bit longer or do you send a little bit less money on a used part that will probably work just as good. There isn’t any right or wrong answer to the question, but only the answer that fits your situation and works best for you. Some people believe used parts work fine if you are careful when you buy them whilst others wouldn’t even look at a used part for their vehicle, no matter how much money they saved.
The Benefits of Used Auto Parts
Buying used parts will save you money in the short term. The products cost less because they have already been used once and have been refurbished or taken from a junkyard car. However, you always take the risk that they won’t work as long and will need to be replaced down the road again. Do you want to save money now and hope it will work for the long term? Do you gamble and go with saving money now or do you splurge and buy the brand new part for more money that comes with a little bit more of a guarantee these days?
The Benefits of New Auto Parts
A new auto part might be cleaner and shinier, but that doesn’t always man it will last longer. Therefore, a new part will usually come with a warranty or a guarantee that it will last for so long. A common guarantee or warranty on a part is 3,000 miles or three months worth of driving if you don’t reach 3,000 miles. The guarantee or warranty usually lasts until whichever milestone it hit first. After that, you are on your own for repairs and fixed to the parts. Brand new parts will also cost more, simply because they are brand spanking new and look good. The manufacturer needs to recoup their expenses for building the part, and new parts have a higher overhead each year versus older ones.
