Are Used Parts A Good Option

When you are faced with a car that is not running correctly, or at all, unfortunately, you are often asked a question when you are discussing the fix with the mechanic – do you want to use new parts or do you want used parts? Did you even think about the option of new or used parts or were you simply focused on how much this was going to cost? Most people don’t stop and think about the overall price in terms of using new or used parts, until it makes a huge price difference. A lot of times people want to have their car fixed yesterday and don’t care about the price, but they should.

Used Parts Availability

Buying used parts to fix a vehicle is a great option. The parts still have a warranty or a guarantee that comes with them, making them just as desirable as a part that comes brand new with a warranty of its own. Would you rather have the longer warranty and the higher price or would you prefer to have the moderate price with an equally attractive warranty? Used parts might also be a necessity for older model cars if the parts aren’t still being made. Shops might have used parts on their shelves that they have removed from other cars that will still work fine. For really old cars or ones that did not have very many made, a junkyard might be the only options to find a replacement part.

Where to Shop for Quality Used Parts

As stated above, depending on how old your car is might limit how many places you can purchase used car parts from. If there are junkyards in your area, check with them first and see what parts they have that will work for your car. They will often have the lowest price on parts. Next, you can shop online, day or night, and search for the car part needed. If time allows you, you could also shop in person at the local auto parts store until you find exactly what part you need to get your car up and running so you can get on the move again.
